Berliner Dom is the colloquial name for the Evangelical "Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church." Its building is located on Museum Island in the Mitte borough. It has been rebuilt many times and its present style is high Neo-Renaissance built by Julius and Otto Raschdorff. After Allied bombing blew part of the windows away and caused a fire in the dome, it underwent reconstruction in 1975, simplifying the building's original design and tearing down the northern wing. On June 6 1993 the big prayer hall was reinaugurated in an event attended by Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl and televised nationwide in Germany.
