Memorial des Martyrs de la Deportation--Paris

 
This is a monument near Notre Dame Cathedral dedicated to the memory of the 200,000 people deported from Vichy France
to German Concentration camps during World War II.  A steep and narrow stairwell leads down into the memorial which was  designed to communicate the claustrophobia the deportees must have felt. The stairs lead to the level of the Seine.
