In front of the Feldhernhalle on the 9th of November, 1923, Hitler had a monument erected with two guards of honour at the Residence side of the Feldhernhalle. Every passer-by had to greet with the Hitler salute. Most of the Munich people tried to avoid this by sneaking through the area just behind the Feldhernhalle which became known as "dodger's alley." These cobblestones in the area were painted gold in their honor.
